Networking and Exposure

American Society of Civl Engineers UCLA

Last year, the UCLA chapter of ASCE provided membership to over 200 different students. This made us the largest out of the 35 engineering based societies that call UCLA their home. This year, we want to build upon the stalwart foundation we’ve worked hard to create so we can defend our title as the most populated engineering club. Since we have expanded the number of ASCE’s projects, social events, and networking opportunities, we feel ready to host more members than we ever have before.

Some upcoming events to get excited for are the Open House, General Meeting, and New Member Social!

The overall purpose of our recruitment is to bring together all students who are passionate about Civil Engineering. By doing this, we can create a friendly environment of passionate individuals who are ready to work hard toward a common goal.

Career Fairs: During the year, 2 career fairs are held where over 50 companies attend. This is the perfect time to start building professional relationships. It’s all about who you know!

Field Trips: ASCE takes multiple trips to different Civil Engineering sites. Through this, we meet different industry partners and gain experience into what a Civil Engineering job looks like.

Project Competitions: 9 ASCE projects have final project competitions. Oftentimes, industry partners will attend, making this a prime place to find that summer internship you want.

Speakers: Different leaders from industry take time to talk to our members and give invaluable advice.

Skill Workshops: Events focused on resume building, interviewing, and other key skills are given by professionals throughout each school year.

Structural Design Programs: Leaders of the ASCE Projects create tutorials on computer aided design programs like AutoCAD, Sketchup, and SAP 2000.

Hand on Projects: ASCE has 9 different creative projects, all of which provide opportunities for hands-on building experience.

Learn New Materials

Mentorship: ASCE provides mentorship events for incoming students. These include class planning workshops and new member socials. Come out to meet some new friends!

Ski Trip: The excursion creates a relaxed environment for members to kick back and really get to know each other.

Socials: Fun events like laser tag, toga gatherings, and bonfires are held throughout the year.

#CivilsHaveMoreFun: This is an opportunity to know and get close with Civils. It’s the terrific place to make friendships that will last a lifetime.

Project Variety: With 9 unique projects, everybody will be able to find something they’re passionate about.

Team Chemistry: Projects are perfect for anyone who wants to be part of a tight-knit group of motivated students.

Competitions: 9 of our projects work toward a culminating competition in which we contend against other schools. This is a great opportunity to let your competitive side show. Beat SC!
