You may have noticed the variety of names that are thrown around by ASCE at UCLA. Each name has it's own history and significance.
ASCE at UCLA - This name comes from the original document which first established us as a student chapter on October 22nd, 1959 (As can be seen by the charter displayed on the left).
UCLA ASCE - This name comes from the natural Bruin desire to put UCLA first. We're proud to be Bruins (as anyone should be!), and so at times you may here us refer to ourselves as UCLA ASCE.
ASCE, UCLA Student Chapter - A formal way of refering to our organization. This recognizes our organization as a chapter of the national organization which is the American Society of Civil Engineering.
ASCE-UCLA - A shorthand way of writting "ASCE, UCLA Student Chapter"
HISTORY

What's with the Names?
In 1959 the American Society of Civil Engineers at the University of California, Los Angles was chartered. Since then, we have grown into a robust, student run organization. ASCE at UCLA does everything from community service to competitive engineering projects. Although we continue to grow, there are still many things that have remained the same. Below is our statement of purpose:
To promote a sense of community among students expressing an interest in Civil Engineering through academic and social activities. To provide a bridge between incoming students, continuing Civil Engineering students, Civil Engineering faculty, and the Engineering Industry. To further the knowledge of the various Civil Engineering fields among other campus groups and the general UCLA population.
As we keep moving forward it is important to learn from the past. Every member can be an author to the continuing history of ASCE and we invite all majors to come and share in the excitement of civil engineering. Also, to those who have been through ASCE history themselves, we invite you to share. Please feel free to leave a comment via Facebook or email by going to the Media Page.
