ASCE PROJECTS
At UCLA ASCE, we take great pride in our projects. Whether it is showing great dedication by waking up early for Paddling Practice for Concrete Canoe or tediously glueing balsa wood for Seismic Design, ASCE Projects allow students to immerse themselves in the hands-on portion of civil engineering. It is the real engineering work that often gets overlooked in the school curriculum. And ASCE Projects does an excellent job in preparing students for the work force where they may be called upon for their hands-on engineering skills!
UCLA ASCE offers a variety of projects to entertain everyone's interests. Getting involved is very easy! See below to find a project that you may like!
ABOUT
![]() Concrete Canoe (Kristina Carter)Kristina started getting heavily involved in the concrete canoe project on the latter half. Thanks to her immense dedication, they were able to push very productive work days. This allowed them to complete the canoe on time and to the high level of quality that allowed them to earn 2nd place at the Pacific South West Conference. Not only did Kristina help with sanding and staining the canoe, but she was also available whenever they needed an extra hand to sand, carry, or watch the canoe. |

![]() ASC 67 (Nolan Werner)Nolan played a key role in this year's design build team throughout the year and during competition. Beginning as estimator and giving a hand in design, he improved and excelled in his work to earn the position of team captain for next year's team and ASC 67's project engineer of the 'year'. |
![]() Doghouse (Chris Jansen)Chris was a great help throughout the project. His skill with many of the tools used during construction of the doghouse as well as during the aesthetics portion helped make an amazing doghouse. |
![]() Transportation (Soheil Kashani)Soheil was a very dedicated member of the transportation project this year. He was consistent in coming out to workdays and helping wherever was necessary. At the end of the project, he did an awesome job creating a rendering of our road for our poster by using Photoshop. Thanks for all the hard work Soheil! |
![]() Steel Bridge (Kyle Evans)Kyle has shown great determination for the project in waking up early to help with various aspects of the project from making quick fixes to the bridge to transporting the bridge and supporting our build team. Great work Kyle! |
![]() Seismic Design (Abby Chung)Abby is a crucial member of the Seismic Design Team. With her precise and delicate construction skills she built a large majority of the structure's lightweight facade and other complex structural components. Countless times she used her adept problem solving skills to figure out new building techniques when we ran into construction issues. Furthermore, her extensive knowledge of Boston not only helped us to improve our architecture, but also allowed us to have an amazing Bostonian experience. |
![]() GeoWall (Clint Bannout)Clint has been of great importance to the success of GeoWall all throughout the school year. His hard work and immense contribution to the design report led us to compete in Nationals. His creativity and logic during workdays helped us to continuously improve our design. If it wasn't for his dedication to the project and the great amount of time he put into it, GeoWall would not have been as successful as it is. |
![]() Environmental (Alejandra Vera)Alejandra has been one of the most consistent team members. She is very important with the experiments, construction, and design. She was an integral part in preparing for PSWC. |
![]() Concrete Sports (Kristina Carter)Look at that snazzy Kristina! She is our Project Engineer of the 'year'. Her dedication towards the project throughout the year has been off the limits, one of the reasons our project had a very successful year. Not to forget her awesome performance at PSWC 2015. Please congratulate Kristina next time when you see her for all the hard work she put into the project. Thanks Kristina! |
