ASCE Society Scholarships

Scholarships are for undergraduate students, provided they have at least one semester or quarter of study in the next academic year. Applicants must be current ASCE Student Members in good standing.

The national ASCE Organization has many scholarships that represent various aspects of civil engineering. Click picture to see more details about all of them.

Below you will find a list of all the scholarships and internships that you should certainly apply for. Often very few apply and these great opportunities are missed. So by consolidating all the scholarships that ASCE at UCLA publicizing on this website, it will be a much more streamlined process.

Metropolitan Water District of Southern California

Metropolitan is a consortium of twenty six cities and water districts that provides drinking water to nearly 19 million people in Southern California. Metropolitan's mission is to provide its service area with adequate and reliable supplies of high quality water to meet current and future needs in an environmentally and economically responsible way. Metropolitan's facilities include the 242-mile Colorado River Aqueduct (national historic engineering landmark); five conventional water treatment plants with a combined capacity of 2.6 billion gallons per day; nine surface water reservoirs; 800 miles of pipeline, ranging nearly up to 20 feet in diameter; 16 hydroelectric power plants; and numerous support facilities.

EERI Internships

UNAVCO, Inc is a non-profit, university-governed consortium that facilitates geoscience research and education using geodesy. UNAVCO’s core sponsor is the National Science foundation (NSF) with additional sponsorship from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), as well as other public and private sources.

UNAVCO employs about 100 people with jobs ranging from Business Administration to Engineering. Most employees work at our headquarters in Boulder, Colorado. We also have offices in: Anchorage, Alaska and San Clemente, California.

SCEC Internship Programs

SCEC/SURE (Summer Undergraduate Research Experience) interns are primarily juniors or seniors, and most projects are best suited for students majoring in earth science or a related field. SURE interns are paired one-on-one with a SCEC scientist at that researcher's institution or field site, to work within that scientist's field of specialty.

Robert Noyce Scholarship

The Robert Noyce Teaching Fellowship is a five-year program where recent college graduates and mid-career professionals make a commitment to teach math or science in public secondary schools. Teaching Fellows are talented individuals with a bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and are new to teaching. Teaching Fellows are first trained as math or science teachers, then as Master STEM Educators. Each individual receives approximately $42K in tuition support during the first two years of the program to cover the cost of earning a California Preliminary Credential, a California Clear Credential, and a master’s degree in education. During the first year, fellows also receive $15K in living stipends while engaged in a year-long teaching residency. Upon completion of Teaching Certification/MA, fellows are eligible to receive salary supplements of $10K per year for up to four years of teaching math or science in local high-needs schools. Applicants must include supplemental application materials at the time of applying to CGU’s Teacher Education Program. CGU will award a total of 15 fellowships over the 2015-16 and 2016-17 school years.

Southern California Chapter American Concrete Institute Student Scholarship

The Southern California Chapter of the ACI has approved a cash award of $2000 to be granted to up to three local university civil engineering students in 2015. The award will be presented to individuals pursuring a degree in civil or structural engineering.

Sanitation Districts of LA County Fellowships

The program provides fellowships of $2,000 to $5,000 per year for two to five undergraduate students at each participating university.Interested students, who will be attending one of the universities listed above during academic year 2015-2016, should fill out the online application. The Sanitation Districts will forward completed applications to the designated universities, each of whom have a selection committee that will award the fellowships.

Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District

Based in San Francisco, Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District has a great opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer. Applicants are also required to have a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, a P.E. license in the state of California and a valid California driver's license. The The salary range is $51.91 - $62.72 per hour, with benefits.
