The Family system is aimed to take out BIG ASCE family and make it a little smaller.  Each mentee or "little" will receive a mentor or "big" if they choose to participate.  Matches are done based on both mentor and mentee preferences.

Beyond the Mentor-Mentee matching, there are also different families.  Families participate in friendly competitions against each other, provide academic support, and just have fun together.

MENTORSHIP

Families

Civils Have More Fun

Mentorship is a means through which ASCE members can receive guidance from more experienced members while leading the newer and younger members.  ASCE members are divided into mentor-mentee pairings which are the foundation of the mentorship program. These pairings are then grouped together into larger families. Families allow members to interact with more people and establish more intimate communities within ASCE.

Mentorship holds a number of events each quarter. These events include fun excursions, like a trip to Sky High or Griffith Park, academic help in the form of class planning workshops and weekly study sessions, and friendly competitions, like the annual family games and numerous family challenges throughout the year. These events ensure that each member maintains the balance of academic and social lives, all while making lasting friendships with other members.

Overall, mentorship allows our members to ask questions, further their leadership abilities, help each other in their studies, and become part of the greater ASCE community. Through ASCE mentorship, our members go from new college students to prepared civil engineers.

This is a sub-title.  Great for all photos!  Keep it short!

Gingerbread House Social

This Holiday Spectacular happens every year at the end of the Fall Quarter.  With a variety of candies, grahm crackers, and frosting, us talented civil engineering students are able to create some sturdy (and tastey) structures.

Family Games

The family games is a once a quarter event where every family comes out to enjoy the beautiful scenery of UCLA through some competitive, light games.  Three legged races, capture the flag, and kanjam are just some of the notable past events.

Class Planning Workshop

Another quarterly event, the Class Planning Workshop is a great event for upper and lower classmen alike.  Upper classmen give advice to the younger ASCE members and provide academic guidance.  The event teaches new UCLA students how to use MyUCLA and a counselor from the civil engineering department comes to answer questions and give a brief presentation.
